Harken Capital Adds Secondary Advisory Services and Hires Nick Hatch

Boston, Massachusetts

Harken Capital announced today that it is launching a secondary advisory service and that Nick Hatch has joined the firm as Director and Head of Secondary Advisory.  Nick previously worked at Probitas Partners and Scalar Partners.  At Harken, he will continue providing customized services to limited partners as they optimize their portfolios through secondary purchases and sales.  As the secondary market has matured, limited partners needs have evolved—requiring an advisor that has both the experience and flexibility to structure transactions that are highly specific to each client’s needs.

“We are excited to expand our service offering to private equity limited and general partners through secondary advisory services.  Nick is the right person for this role.  He brings numerous relationships with limited partners who are active investors in private equity through both primary commitments and secondary transactions.  These relationships, along with his experience in fund restructuring, placement, and unlocking value in current assets under management, will allow Harken to continue to serve both limited and general partners in the private equity industry,” said Don Nelson, co-founder of Harken Capital.

Harken is also pleased to announce the opening of our San Francisco office, which Nick will lead.  Harken now has offices in four cities across the US, providing geographic coverage that helps differentiates the firm among other small fund placement and advisory firms.

“Nick has a proven ability to find buyers mostly likely to provide efficient pricing to sellers, and to structure transactions in ways that meet the needs of both buyers and sellers,” said Fred Malloy, co-founder of Harken Capital.  “Nick is a great fit with Harken.  Our entire team at Harken has direct investing experience, which helps us drill down into portfolios and track records so we can choose Funds likely to provide ongoing value creation. Nick approaches the secondary advisory business with this same investor mentality.”

Prior to joining Harken, Nick built the secondary advisory practice at Scalar Partners, where he advised, structured and executed a wide range of secondaries transaction.  Nick gained a reputation for employing creative structures and flexible transactions for a variety of limited partners, including smaller investors that are typically not served well by large intermediaries.  Before joining Scalar, Nick worked at Probitas Partners, a leading private equity fund placement and secondary advisory firm, and helped close multiple large private equity fund portfolio sales for large US and European institutional investors.  Prior to joining Probitas, Nick worked at the Venture Services group at Deutsche Bank advising leading venture funds with block trades and distributions.  Nick started his career as an investor, analyzing early stage venture capital investments for the University Venture Fund.
